2011 Parent Survey Results

Summary of Grand Junction Imagination Library’s Parent Survey to

Evaluate Impact of Program on Registered Children

In November of 2011, approximately 3 years after Grand Junction Imagination Library started registering children to receive free books through the program, the organization conducted its second parent survey to collect feedback on the impact of the program.

Our survey provided the following feedback:

98% of enrolled parents believe Imagination Library is helping to prepare their child for school.

65% of enrolled parents indicated that they are reading together more with their child since they enrolled in Imagination Library

Being read to as a child and having books in the home are the two most important indicators of future academic success (NationalCenter for Family Literacy).  Enrollment in Imagination Library ensures families have books in the home AND families tell us they are spending more time reading with their children.

100% of enrolled parents said their child’s literacy is being positively impacted by receiving books through Imagination Library.

80% of enrolled parents said their child finds the Imagination Library books very interesting.

Parent Comments:

“I am so thankful for the books we have received!  It has definitely made my daughter more interested in story time and has improved her speech.”

“My daughter loves receiving her very own books in the mail.  We have to read them immediately and then again and again.”

“I think this is one of the best programs made for children.”

“Books are expensive and I wouldn’t be able to get a lot of different books.  This is a great way to spend time with my son.  He loves the pictures and loves sitting with me nightly for our reading.”

“A new colorful book comes in the mail just for my son – he gets so excited about reading it!”

“It is such an amazing program.  My son looks forward to getting a book each month and can’t wait to sit down and read it.”

“We feel like this program is a blessing.  My child checks the mailbox everyday in hopes that he has received a new book.  His favorite book is the one we most recently received.”

“With the cost of a new book being fairly high, it is nice for my daughter to have a new book that is all her own.  It makes her feel special.”

“This is a great way to keep kids reading.  When it comes to them in the mail it makes them want to read right away.”

“We have loved every book we have gotten.  We always have read to our kids, but it is easier when they have books to pick from that they love.”

“It is always a special treat when we get a new book in the mail.”

“My daughter loves getting mail and was so excited when her book arrived.  We have read the book everyday since it came.  It is her favorite book right now.”

About the Survey: Grand Junction Imagination Library collected feedback from parents with children enrolled in the program through an online survey or phone survey.  In total, we contacted 643 enrolled families; 174 of those enrolled families participated in the survey (27% of total enrolled families).  An enrolled family is a family with one or more children registered to receive books through GJIL.
